Joy was born to Edward O. and Rachel (Beebe) Byers in Kelso, Washington on November 13, 1933, and was a lifelong resident of Cowlitz County.Joy graduated from RA Long High School in 1952. After graduation, she began working at Cowlitz General Hospital, soon moving to Dr. Pulliam's office as his receptionist. After several years as a valuable employee, Joy was able to give up her outside job and become a full-time homemaker, a job at which she excelled. After her husband's retirement, they joined the Longview Fibre Retirees Group, and she served 7 years as Recording Secretary.Joy was happiest when surrounded by family. She enjoyed nothing more than to cook meals for family and friends, and they enjoyed nothing more than eating them. As an avid gardener, her greatest triumph was to finally get dogwood trees to flourish.Joy met her husband of 51 years, Robert (Bob) Perry, while visiting relatives in Chehalis, Washington. They married on Joy's 21st birthday, November 13, 1954, raising 3 children.Joy is survived by her husband, Bob, daughter, Rachel Perry, son Robert N. Perry & wife Michelle, 2 grandchildren McKenzie and Ryan Perry, brother Denny Byers and wife Barb, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Preceding her in death were her parents, five sisters, one brother, and a daughter, Valerie Kay Perry.A celebration of her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the Cowlitz Valley Moose Lodge in Longview. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, Washington 98632. Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Park and Crematory.
