Robert was born January 6, 1931 at Arlington, Iowa to Robert and Lela (Crawford) Pierce Sr. In 1944, Robert (Bob) moved with his family from Iowa to St. Helens, Oregon. Bob graduated from Rainier High School in 1949. He enlisted in the US Navy on January 10, 1951 and served his country for the next 22 years, retiring in 1972 as Chief Gunnersmate Missile Man. On April 2, 1951, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Mary E. Farwell. Together they raised three daughters, Robin, Rhonda and Rebecca while traveling to the many ports where Bob was stationed. Bob has three grandchildren currently serving in the US Military and he was very proud of them. After Bob's retirement, he and Mary moved to Kelso, WA where he worked for Cowlitz County as Lead Building Maintenance Man. Bob was active in the Lower Columbia Fleet Reserve Association Branch 363 and was past president. Bob enjoyed his side yard at his home, his model trains, the beach, and the many activities that his grand-children and great grandchildren participated in. His grandchildren have many fond memories of being at the beach with their granddad. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary, and his three daughters, Robin Anderson (John), Rhonda Crosby (Wayne) and Rebecca Traub (Gary); eight grandchildren, Heidi Vossen (Mike), Robert Crosby, Hillari Anderson, Brian Crosby (Jessica), Warren Anderson, Lee Crosby (Jemima), Jason Crosby, and Elisa Anderson; and eight great grandchildren, Zachary, Blake, Jessica, Brogan, Kirsten, Aaron, Estyn, Gavin and a Baby due in June. Also surviving Bob are two sisters, Lucy Miller (Kenneth), and Shirley Conn (Loren), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Western Washington Chapter 12721 30th Avenue N.E., No. 101, Seattle, WA 98125. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Columbia Funeral Service in Longview. Memorial Services will be Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 1pm at the Kelso Presbyterian Church with Pastor Hanna Peterson officiating. Concluding the service will be a Two Bell Ceremony conducted by the Lower Columbia Fleet Reserve Association Branch 363.
