He was born April 26, 1923, in Wadena County, Minn., to G. Harris and Myrtle (Lamb) Rider. He moved to the local area in 1949. Mr. Rider served in the Army during World War II. He worked at Long-Bell Lumber Co. and Longview Fibre Co. until 1960, when he moved to Chehalis and purchased the 24 Flavors Ice Cream Store. He returned to Cowlitz County in 1968 and retired from Fibre in 1985. He married Irene Richards on March 10, 1944. She survives him. Also surviving are a son, Darwin Rider; two daughters, Derene Salzsieder and Debbie Stalter; two brothers, Ronald Rider and Martin Rider; two sisters, Mayvis Taskey and Karen James; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services held March 30, 2006, Whittle-Hubbard Cemetery in Castle Rock.
