John was born in West Frankfort, Illinois September 8, 1918 to Dominic Savisky and Julie Ursula Dowiatt. He was the oldest of 3 sons. Brother, Anthony Savisky preceded him in death. Brother Alfred Savisky and his wife Idell live in New Mexico. John grew up and attended school in West Frankfort, Illinois. He joined the Army prior to WWII. He served 2 tours of duty in the European and African theaters. He was wounded during his African tour. After the war he worked at the Swan Island shipyards, Portland, Oregon. He married Helen Marguerite Church in 1946 and moved to Kelso where John was a postal worker and later an edger operator for Shepherd and Dasher Lumber Mill, Longview. John and Helen had a daughter, Sara Ann (Savisky) Koethke. They moved to Longview in 1958. Helen passed away in 1997. John loved his rose garden, bowling and annual "reunion" trips to Reno to meet brother Al and sister-in-law Idell. He was a Charter member of the Hugh Ingram VFW Post 3017 and a Life Member of VFW and DAV. John was also a member of the Kelso Elks, Longview Lions, Longview Eagles and Columbia Heights Baptist Church. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Sara and Charles Koethke, his brother and sister-in-law Al and Idell Savisky, 3 grandchildren, Richard Koethke and Michele (Koethke) Wolosyn and her husband Robert of Longview, Karie (Koethke) Brimmer of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, and 5 great grandchildren, Casey, Cory, Dalton and Carly Wolosyn and Garrett Brimmer. John's family would like to gratefully thank Dr. Neal Kirkpatrick and staff for their years of caring service. Thank you to his Hospice Home Care Nurse and Aides.
