Helen Smith, 99, of Longview died March 12, 2006. 

She was born March 7, 1907, in Ballard, Wash., to Lars and Christine (Fosness) 
Brekke. She graduated from Ballard High School, Whitman College and McGill 
University before moving to Longview in 1930. 

She married Reginald A.A. Smith on Dec. 18, 1949 in Ballard, Wash. He preceded 
her in death in 1982. 

Mrs. Smith taught languages at R.A. Long from 1930 to 1949. She was a 
substitute teacher throughout the local area until retiring in 1970. 

She is survived by a son, Dale Smith; a daughter, Jean Thornsbury; five 
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Longview Community 
Church. Private interment will take place at Longview Memorial Park. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Helen B. Smith Charitable Trust 
Foundation, care of Bank of America, 1515 Commerce Ave., Longview, Wash. 98632. 

Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.
