Jack was born August 9, 1938 in Edgeley, ND to Jacob W. and Elta F. Sommerfeld. A former jazz drummer, he grew up in Vancouver, WA where he attended high school at both Fort Vancouver and Hudson's Bay. Jack loved to play basketball and was a star player at his respective schools. After serving in the U.S. Army for several years, he attended Clark College where he graduated with an Associates Degree. Over the past 20 years, he has owned and operated A First Place, Inc. with his wife Lois. Throughout his career as a Chemical Dependency professional he touched many lives. Jack is survived by his wife, Lois, of Kelso, WA; his parents, Elta and Jacob Sommerfeld of Longview, WA; son, Brandon Sommerfeld of Westport, VA; and daughter, Jennifer Cummings of Los Angeles, CA. Other survivors include step- children, Krystal-Kay Hawkins, Alan Shaw, Alden Shaw and Jenny Marthaller. He leaves behind two biological granddaughters, 15 step-grandchildren and numerous friends and family members. Jack's favorite pastimes include visiting with his parents, playing guitar and keyboard, music composition, caring for rescued animals, working his land, loving his wife Lois and his Lord, Jesus Christ.
