He was born May 14, 1920 in Sumner, Nebraska, the son of Thomas Bradley & Nettie Belle Spellmeyer. Mr. Spellmeyer moved here in 1939 from Nebraska. He graduated from high school when he was 16 years old. Mr. Spellmeyer enlisted in the Army in 1942. He served in Europe during WWII and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. In October of 1946 he married Marjorie Mae Nelson. He retired from Weyerhaeuser as a millwright in 1983. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship and the Longview/Kelso Bowling Association. Mr. Spellmeyer enjoyed league bowling, trapshooting, woodworking, dancing, and playing cards. He was a lifelong baseball & softball enthusiast, longtime youth baseball coach and was one of the founders of Central Little League. He was a devoted husband of Marjorie for 59 years, beloved and supportive father of his two sons, Tom & Bob and a proud, committed and giving grandfather to his four grandsons. He was a determined and fierce competitor. Mr. Spellmeyer was preceded in death by his brothers, Ken, Frank, Merle, Clifford and Robert; and his parents. He leaves behind his two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas & Cathie Spellmeyer of Castle Rock and Robert & Susan Spellmeyer of Puyallap, Washington; four grandsons, Andrew Spellmeyer of Puyallap, Jesse Spellmeyer and Patrick Spellmeyer both of Castle Rock and Brendon Spellmeyer of Puyallap; brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Katherine Spellmeyer of Longview. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Grace Bible Fellowship with Pastor Calvin Blum officiating. Private family internment will take place.
