John Donald Swift, 86, of Cathlamet, died March 7, 2006. 

He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in New England, N.D., to William Francis and Maud 
Lillian (Byers) Swift and attended schools in Waubun, Minn. 

Mr. Swift moved to the Cathlamet area from Minnesota in the 1940s. He was a 
loader operator at Crown Zellerbach Corp. from 1942 to 1982. 

He married Verna Malakowsky on Nov. 7, 1942, in Cathlamet. She preceded him in 
death in 1983. 

Mr. Swift is survived by five sons, David "Pete" Swift, William "Bill" Swift, 
Robert Swift, Michael "Mike" Swift and Kenneth Swift; a daughter, Barbara 
Raubuch; a sister, Ruth Smith; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 
numerous nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dowling Funeral Chapel in 
Cathlamet. A potluck luncheon will follow at Congregational Church on Third and 
Maple streets in Cathlamet. The viewing will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at 
the funeral home.
