Louise Irene Thompson, 69, Mother, grandmother and loving wife, died at her 
home in Longview, Washington on February 20 after a difficult struggle with 
cancer. 

Her family was at her side as she passed away. 

Louise was born February 2, 1937 in Minneapolis Minnesota. She was raised by 
her mother in Minnesota and Seattle, and graduated from Garfield High School, 
Seattle, in 1955. Louise married Richard Thompson Sr. in 1956, settling in 
Longview, Washington in 1963 in the home where they have lived since. 

Louise was devoted to her children, a fabulous grandmother and a child 
advocate. As a mother of a Deaf child, Louise was active in the community and 
promoted the implementation of services for the Deaf. Louise was a sign 
language interpreter for many years for the Longview School District, and 
taught sign language at Lower Columbia College. Louise's interest in the well-
being of children who were deaf or hard of hearing grew to include all children 
who required advocacy. Louise was instrumental in the establishment of a CASA 
(Court-Appointed Special Advocate) chapter in Longview, and worked as dedicated 
board member, advocate and volunteer for many years, until she could no longer 
participate due to her illness. 

Louise is survived by her husband, Richard Thompson, her mother, Marie Julsen, 
her children, Rick, Jeff, Karen and Teri, and her grandchildren Heith, Kendra, 
Ashley, Emily, and Nicholas. 

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Cowlitz County CASA chapter 
in honor of Louise's memory. 

A memorial celebrating Louise's Life will be held on March 18, 2006 at the CASA 
facility in Longview.
