He was born August 10, 1925 in Clear Lake, WA to Russell and Alma (Clark) Waite. A lifelong local resident, he graduated from Kelso High School in 1942. Mearle served in the Navy during WWII as a hard hat diver in New Guinea, after which, he returned to Longview and worked for Longview Fibre for 12 years, then working at his father's machine shop, Chess and Waite. Shortly after, he was the founding father of Waite Specialty and Machine, which originated in the basement of his home. Waite Specialty and Machine became his life's work that prospers in the community to this day. Mearle enjoyed flying, dancing and traveling. Mearle and Lila Olson were married August 21, 2001. She survives him at home. Also surviving are three sons, Steve Waite, Keith Kallinen, and Rick Kallinen; three daughters, Cynthia Eisele, Kristina Bartelme and Joy Lawson; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. On a last note – Dream it and do it. The more likely you are to use your imagination, the more likely you are to achieve great things and that's what Mearle did!
