He was born May 21, 1917, in Ferndale, Wash, to Lynden P. and Olive (Collins) Welch. He grew up in Bellingham and Ferndale area and moved to Kalama in 1933. He graduated from Kalama High School in 1936. Mr. Welch served in the Navy during World War II and was a sign maker for the county road department. He married Virginia Merz on April 4, 1941. She survives him. Also surviving are three daughters, Penny Buck, Beck Sowders and Cindy Jones; a brother, Jim Welch; a sister, Alice Rice; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Kalama Cemetery. A memorial service will be announded at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalama United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 397, Kalama, WA 98625 Arrangements are by Dahl-McVicker Funeral Home.
