He was born to Earl and Josephine "Rose" Wens on March 27, 1933 in Philip, South Dakota and moved to the Longview area in 1933. Ed graduated from R.A. Long High School and joined the Navy serving in the Korean War on a Naval Mine Sweeper. He graduated from Radio School in California. Upon returning home he began his career with Weyerhaeuser where he held several jobs including accounting, production and shipping at R & W Paper Company. Ed loved to hunt, fish and work in his wood shop. He owned his own boat for years and spent many wonderful days on the river with his wife, family and friends. He loved flowers and raised orchids as a hobby as well as cooking and baking. For many years he was in charge of most of the family Christmas cookies. Taking beach trips and fishing in Soap Lake were favorite pastimes. He was an avid reader, loving science fiction and western books. He was a member of the Longview Legion and the Eagles. Ed married Margaret L. Rood in 1966. They were devoted to each other and were seldom apart. He is survived by Margaret and their children Loreen Wens, Karla Wens and Sandra Opp of Longview; Sheri Heiner of Winlock and Jamies Rood (deceased). He is also survived by grand-children Timothy & Michelle Timmreck of Onalaska; Mary & Jaime Gonzalaz of Centralia; Scott & Sue Timmreck of Longview; Edward Timmreck of Longview; Lena Heiner of Longview; Michael (Davy) & Shannon Heiner of Winlock; Sean Heiner of Olympia; Cory Opp of Longview; Shannon Opp of Longview; Matthew Heiner of Centralia and Cheynne Wens of Longview. Edward is also survived by great-grandchildren Tony, Nick, Sara & Amanda Gonzalaz; Jimmy & Mariah Timmreck; Malachi, Marie & Michael David Heiner; John & Amanda Timmreck; Joel & Casey Timmreck; Andrea, Megan & Breanna Opp; Grace Heiner-Orr and Cameron & Dylan Heiner.
