Wallace was born in Powers, Oregon on September 29, 1927 to Herschel Ephram & Reeda Mary (Johnson) Whitaker. Wallace spent his childhood years in the Boistfort area. He served a short period of time in the United States Navy. Wallace lived in Longview for about 40 years before moving back to Lewis County where he had spent the past eleven years in Centralia. Wallace enjoyed metal detecting, going to the casino, watching basketball and baseball - especially the Mariners. He also liked to travel. He and his brother Herschel made several trips to Reno together. Mr. Whitaker is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herschel and Vernon Whitaker. Wallace is survived by his niece Kathy (Tom) Taylor and nephew Gerald Whitaker all of Chehalis; close friends Jack Crocker and Galina Baida both of Centralia; great nieces and nephews Candy (Nile) Millam, Shannon Bensching, Desiree (Matt) Ladd and Ken Taylor as well as numerous cousins. Visitations for Nelson Wallace Whitaker may be made Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM at the Sticklin Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service is scheduled to begin at 11:00am Friday, February 10th also at Sticklin Funeral Chapel. Private interment will be held at a later date at Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens, Kelso.
