Edwin Franklin White, 71, of Kelso, Washington passed away from natural causes on February 28, 2006 at the Hospice Care Center. Edwin was born on April 24, 1934 in Kelso, Washington to Carl James and Carrie Edna (Byers) White. He attended school in Kalama, where he graduated from high school in 1952, after which he enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class during the Korean War. Following a stint in the Navy, he returned home in 1961 where he worked in the local area. He and Carol A. Newman were married in 1972 and lived together in Kalama, where he retired from the Reynolds Metals Co. in 1991 after 22 years, working as a Casthouse Foreman. Edwin was a member of the VFW Post #10435 in Kalama, where he served as Post Commander and invested countless hours raising scholarship funds for Kalama High School seniors. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, garage sale hunting, playing cards and most importantly, playing with and enjoying the company of his grandchildren. Edwin is survived by his wife Carol at home, daughters Kimberly Barker and Debra Traub of Kelso, Connie Bryant of Kalama, brothers Bob and Chester White of Kalama, Barry White of Kelso, sisters Brownie Preston of Castle Rock and Nancy Jacobs of Rose Valley, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Edwin was preceded in death by parents Carl and Carrie White, his sister Helen Vandriel and brother Dave White. Edwin was widely known for his sense of humor, his forthrightness, but above all his generous, compassionate and gentle soul. There will be no service, at Edwin's request, however those wishing to express their sympathies may contribute to the VFW Post #10435 High School College Scholarship Fund. Papa, we love you and cherish all those wonderful memories we shared. You are forever in our hearts!
