J. Stepp steppmom5@hotmail.com June 2, 2006, 8:45 pm Published in The Daily News on 2/11/2006. Donald Lee Wolters passed away Friday, February 10, 2006 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Harbine, Nebraska, September 30, 1934, the son of Arthur & Clara Wolters. He moved to Longview, WA at the age of ten where he attended school and later served in the U.S. Navy. He became a journeyman electrician out of Local 970 in Longview, WA, Local 357 in Las Vegas, NV, & 1547 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was due to receive his 50 year pin in May. He loved his trade and came to Nevada to work at the Nevada Test Site in 1962, as well as work on many of the older hotels on the Strip that were built in the 60's and 70's. He spent many years working in Alaska with his longest time being on the Alaskan Pipeline in the 70's. He worked from Prudoe Bay to Valdez and in many camps along the pipeline route. He was a hard worker and a good provider...working in that cold arctic weather wasn't easy. Along the way he traveled to may construction jobs around the country. He retired to his summer home in Ocean Park, WA, then decided he loved the sunshine more, so moved back to Nevada in 2002 settling in Logandale, Nevada. He loved his RV and to travel in his retirement years, especially with our group of RV friends and was always ready to "sing" and "be on the road again". He loved to visit family and friends wherever he was. We shall remember him as an honest, "call it like it is" guy who softened his heart over the years...a good man who loved his family above all and enjoyed so much his friends. He loved to dance...please save the "last dance for me, dear"...and "as you said, it was such a thrill to dance with you" I will miss that. He was ready to move on and accepted his early fate with a positive attitude and lots of faith and fought a valiant fight and was at peace. He has Jesus Christ in his life and that give him peace and comfort and was grateful for all the prayer in his behalf...thank you all. He is survived by his wire, Nina, of 42 years. Collectively, they had six children. Cynthia (Bill) Hannebaum, Las Vegas, NV, Connie (Tim) Jordan, Boise, ID, Craig Wolters, Toledo, WA, Randy Jones, Reno, NV, Dawn Wolters, Logandale, NV, and his favorite daughter-in-law, Christine Jones, Yuba City, CA.
