Fire in chair kills woman at Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT - EIna Beadell, 61, 
died about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when 
she apparently was overcome by 
smoke coming from the burning, 
overstuffed chair she had been sitting 
in at her home here, Douglas County 
sheriff's deputies said.

Efforts by her husband, Charles, and 
a neighbor, "   ", to put out the 
blazing chair with a fire extinguisher 
were in vain as she was pronounced 
dead at the scene, deputies said. The 
home was at 1226 Columbia.

The fire apparently started when 
Mrs. Beadell tell asleep in the chair
while  smoking,  deputies  said.
The cause is still under, investigation.

Her husband had been away for about 
an hour when he freturned home and 
saw smoke pouring from the windows 
of his house, deputies said. While he 
and Abbott were trying to extinguish 
the fire, they saw Mrs. Beadell's body 
on the floor next to the chair, deputies said.
Firefighters from the Bridgeport Fire Department 
arrived soon after that and put out the blaze, 
deputies said. The fire destroyed the chair and 
caused smoke damage to the rest of the one-story house, 
they said.
