Eighty nine bibles and Testaments were pyramided on the platform. Above the pyramid a cross of Bibles were on hand. The oldest was bought by Mr. G. M. CUMBO, published in 1776. The second oldest sent down by Mrs. Ed BUTT, was printed in the German language at Berne, Switzerland in 1830. Genevieve GASKILL brought in the largest Bible which weighed about 15 pounds. Alice SANSTROM won the award for the Bible with the most interesting history. Several versions were on hand - King James, American Revised, Goodspeeds, Scolfields, the Living Oracles and translation by Doddridge, McKnight and Campbell. Foreign languages represented were Swedish, Danish, Welsh and German. ************************************************************** The IOOF roll call was attended by a large crowd; in fact, the hall was most too small to care of the many who attended (sic). Chas. OSBORNE was master of ceremonies with Carl DAHLKE, secretary, calling the roll. Fifty Odd Fellows answered present and many answered by letter. Mrs. W. P. BROWN arranged a program presented by the children including Charlotte HANSEN, Pat OGLE, Bessie Lou KUMMER, Myrna KUMMER, Naomi ESTILL, Audrey OGLE, Marjorie and Elaine DAHLKE, Octavia DAHLKE at the piano, and Eileen FLETCHER. ************************************************************************** A deal was closed last week whereby Walter MELVIN purchased the Temperance Hall from Rudy GRITSCH, and took possession at once. Mr. GRITSCH has rented the CUNNINGHAM land and will again devote his time to farming. ************************************************************************** Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F. PUFFERT of Douglas left by auto for Los Angeles where they will help celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of Mrs. PUFFERT's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jacob RICHERT ************************************************************************** Word has been received from Lyonel KNEMEYER that while he and Hale PORTER were enroute to Tuscon after leaving Redlands, California, they had the misfortune to overturn their car. No serious damage, however, resulted. The boys did not like Tuscon and have returned to Redlands. ************************************************************************** Miss Evelyn UNDERWOOD celebrated her 14th birthday with a dinner party. Guests were Mary HOWE, Mary ALEXANDER, Helen SELLERS and Catherine BURKE ************************************************************************** Mrs. Beulah BROWN presented Ellen Mae CARROLL, Mildred GRITSCH and Betty PRICE in a musical program. ************************************************************************** The High School senior class held a meeting to elect a new secretary and treasurer. The old one was Willamina DALING, who graduated last year and went to school. Grace ELLIE was elected to take the place of Bill. Grace does not wear as big shoes as Bill nor does she have such strong shoulders as Bill, but she seems to be succeeding in performing the duties allotted to her office and in bearing the responsibilities of that office on her shoulders.
