Llbend@aol.com Kappel,Ruff Cemetery T20N R31 E Section 32 Kappel, Ruff Cemetery was walked by Larry and Lenore Lenz. With the help of a Cemetery Plat sent to us by Norman and Aloma Bischoff we were able to list the names and locations of the graves. Information from Mrs. Bischoff says the cemetery was begun in the early 1900's on property don- ated by the Schell family. The Kappel, Ruff Cemetery was named after Wm. Kappel as he is the one who gave the County his- torical information about the Cemetery. It sits at the top of a small hill 2 miles east of Ruff. It is fenced with an arched entrance and double gate. It was not locked. We entered on the south side. There is also a gate on the west side that seemed unused Inside the south gate is a metal sign that says Kappel Cemetery. Many of the sites were of families together in an enclosed space made up of rock or concrete borders. To reach Kappel, Ruff Cemetery from I 90, take the Warden exit and travel north about 1 mile. Turn right at the stop sign. About 1 mile further east of the stop sign you will come to a sign that says Ruff. Turn left (north) till you come to several very large grain elevators. This is the town of Ruff. A short ways past the elevators you will come to Road 6NE. This is a gravel road. Turn right and travel another 2 miles and you will reach Kappal, Ruff Cemetery at the top of a hill and on the left side of the road. It appears the oldest marker is 1915 and the most recent is 1998. Most of the stones are easy to read. We've alphabatized names and listed the location next to them. The Cemetery is laid out in Lots num- berred 1-91. Starting just inside the gate on the left is 1 and to the southeast corner is 6. Then 7 in the next row back to the center road number 12. There are four graves to a Lot. ------------------------------------------------------------ SURNAME FIRST BIRTH/DEATH LOT# Barnit 29 Becker Billie 11 Becker Fred 11 Berli Leah Feb6,1845Mar291919 6 Bischo Alvin D 1957 1960(?) 17 Bischoff Carolina 1860 1928 22 Bischoff Christi 1889 195 15 Bischoff Dau of J 15 Bischoff Fred 22 Bischoff Fredrick 1852 1926 22 Bischoff John 1883 1950 15 Bischoff John R 1913 1979 17 Bischof-Schafer Martha 1920 1996 15 Bischoff Paul 15 Bischoff Paul 1893 1962 22 Dormaeir Fred 23 Dormaeir Katharina 1856 1914 23 Ernst Kati 1887 1920 48 Flaig Carl 27 Flaig Jacob 1930 28 Flaig Mrs.J 29 Hoefner Benne 1915 1916 24 Hoefner Henry 1870 1944 24 Hoefner Luisa 1876 191(?) 24 Jasman Dorothe 1867 1944 34 Jasman Ferdinand 1862 1933 Jasman Linda M 1911 1974 34 Junk Kathrine 27 Kagle Ida 1915 191(?) 14 Kappel Albert 1898 1969 84 Kappel Andreas 1865 1916 13 Kappel Katheri 1873 1954 13 Kappel William 1895 1973 84 Kenella 27 Oster Christ 1858 1928 1 Ottmar Christine 1891 1978 21 Ottmar Henry 1885 1958 21 Ottmar William 1856 1918 21 Ottmar William,Mrs 21 Elizabeth 1878 1948 85 Pfaff John 1878 1959 85 John 12 Pfaff Katherine 1918 12 Pfaff Michael 1936 28 Pfaff Minnie 1918 12 Pfaff Wilhelm 1916 12 Pfaff William 1908 1960 85 Schell Christina 1856 19(?) 36 Schell Dau of H 36 Schell Henry 1892 191(?) 25 Schell John 1862 1938 36 Schell Katherine 38 Schmidt Agnes 1833 1926 37 Schmidt Fredricka 1861 1924 37 Schmidt George 1832 1921 37 Schmidt Jacob 1860 1937 37 Schmidt Vance M 1923 1928 48 Schmidt Vivienne 1922 1931 48 Spies Dan 1892 1987 1 Spies Edward 1920 1962 96 Spies Herbert M 1926 1998 96 Spies Pauline 1896 1937 1 Spies Robert E 1922 1977 3 Warren Gerald L 1955 1970 73 Warren Robert L 1899 1975 73 Warren Sarah E 1899 19(?) 73 Weis John 1895 1981 95 Weis Katie 1899 1979 95 Weis Vernon M 1931 1951 95 Wynn Jay A 1902 1971 3 Wynn Daisy L 1909 1975 3
