Both above notices must remain when copied or downloaded. gillygon@televar.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------- St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Hanson Station, Grant County, WA St. John's Cemetery is about 10 miles northwest of Almira (Lincoln County) and just inside Grant County at the intersection of county roads UNE and 48NE. It was formed on 11 May 1900, by the sale of land from Robert Kirby to the Catholic Diocese of Nisqually. At that time, it was in Douglas County, becoming part of Grant County when it was formed in 1909. It is located on the northeast corner of Section 4, T26N R30E. It is small, unfenced and untended, but easily accessible from the road. A church once stood on the southeast corner of the cemetery grounds, but as numbers dwindled, it closed with statues going to the church in Coulee Dam and bell to St. Henry's in Grand Coulee. The six stones and nine remaining graves were as follows on 19 May 1999: Melin, Luke born 8 Mar 1840 - died 7 Dec 1904 born Roscommon Co., Ireland Murphy, A.J. born 4 Jan 1872 died 18 Jun 1908 On the back, "All Ye who pass this way please say "Pator Ave" for the soul of me. Requiescat in Pace". This marker is a gray metal formed cross, hollow, and is good condition. O'Neil, Andrew 18 Jul 1854 - 10 Sep 1914 May He Rest In Peace Riendeau, Mary E. 1865 - 1921 "Mother" on footstone } Riendeau, Alderic 1800 - 1905 } Riendeau, Alderic Jr. 1861 - 1936 } These three share a large stone. Riendeau, Alderic 22 Oct 1900 - 14 Apr 1905 son of A. and Mary Riendeau Veronneau, Theophile born 1 Dec 1832 died 18 Dec 1915 Veronneau, H. 1832 - 1927 ****** At the time of gathering data for the History of Almira, published in 1989, one more stone was tallied, it is now missing: Kelly, Maggie M died 16 Oct 1898 24 y 4 m 7 d Beloved daughter of Phoebe and Patrick Kelly. It has been found that Maggie Kelly was disinterred and moved to Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane, WA by her family. Also, it should be noted that there will be one more burial at St. John's. Philip William (Hank) Kelley, died 30 April 1999. His ashes will be buried at St. John's just as soon as the records can be located.
