ELMA IOOF CEMETERY, Gray's Harbor County, WA (Part 1) The US GenWeb Archives provide genealogical and historical data to the general public without fee or charge of any kind. It is intended that this material not be used in a commercial manner. All submissions become part of the permanent collection. Burial list of Elma IOOF Cemetery transcribed and submitted by Susan Gitchell April 2001. Both above notices must remain when copied or downloaded. SGitchell@techline.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elma IOOF Cemetery Elma, Washington 98541 T18N R6W Section 35 The Oddfellow Cemetery is now owned and maintained by the city of Elma. It is located at the junction of the Elma- McCleary Road and Fairgrounds Road just north/east of town on the city limits. Special thanks to the city for allowing me the opportunity to transcribe the tombstones for future generations. Since permission was not aquired in advance to clear any overgrown brush or bushes from the markers it was decided they should be left undisturbed. In a few instances the graves are completely unreachable. For those markers that are no longer readable we are relying on city records to aquire names and dates. In the efforts to make this as complete as possible, copies of the city records were obtained and compared to the actual headstone engravings. As a result of this you will note that additional information next to an entry surrounded by [] . In these brackets is information as recorded in city records that were extracted by volunteers from a card file, in the early 1990’s. For each entry under the headings of name, date of birth, date of death and inscription, this information is as it was extraxcted from each headstone or marker. Whenever possible in () , there are any special notations or observations that may help a researcher. Again in [] are items extracted from city records. You may note in some cases where engravings and city records do not corroborate each other. It is up to the individual researcher to confirm this information. Dates extracted from city records appear to be date of burial not the date of death. Again it is suggested that further research be done for complete accurate information. To help in understanding the exact location of an individual grave, the cemetery (for transcription purposes only) is being charted into six sections. Section 1.1 is a long narrow piece of land that runs the length of the cemetery west to east along the Fairgrounds Road. Section 2.1 is separated from 1.1 by a drive. Directly east (or behind) 2.1 is section 2.2 separated by a drive from 2.1 and 1.1. Section 3.1 is separated from 2.2 and 4.1 by a drive on either side and 3.2 is directly east (or behind) 3.1 separated from the other sections in the same manner. Section 4.1 is the full length of the cemetery west to east, separated by a drive from the other sections and bordered with trees on the right (southern side). At the end of this transcript there is a section for persons whose names appear in the city records but who no longer have any distinguishing markers locatable in the cemetery. ‘God Bless These Soul, May We Never Forget Them’ ************************************************** Legend Last name............... It is very narrow at the start and gains width the further back you travel. Rather than naming each row I have grouped the names together and just separated each row by leaving a space between each group of names. Many of the markers are paper under glass which are either no longer readable or are missing. =============================================================================================================================== Name (Last, First, Middle) Date of Birth Date of death Inscription , (Transcribers notations) , [City Records] =============================================================================================================================== Coffman, George W. 1918 1986 [28 Feb. 1986] Hurd, Pauline M. 29 Jan. 1908 07 Sep. 1979 Parkhurst, Howard L. 1895 1975 Cpl.
