Hoquiam Bartender Shhots Mistress And A Logger
Blows Out HIs Own Brains
James Miles,In A Drunken Condition,Enters His Apartments and Finds John Lund 
With The Woman Who Had Discarded Him

Hoquiam,Wash.,Sept.15-(Special)- One Woman and two men lying dead at the 
morgue is the result of the greatest tragedy in the history of the City of 
Hoquiam.James Miles shot and killed John Sund and Helen Harrington,then turned 
the weapon to his own head and blew out his brains.
The tragedy occurred in a resort in the tenderloin district this morning,when 
Miles, a bartender,came home and found Sund in possession of the house.This 
enraged the bartender and he began to quarrel with Sund in the hallway.The 
woman then appeared in the room and tried to quiet Miles,who drew a 
revolver."Look out,he is going to shoot you!" cried the woman,and Miles turned 
and fired two shots into the woman,who cried,"For Gods sake don't shoot me," 
then fell to the floor with a bullet in her body.
Miles then shot Sund in the abdomen,the wounded man falling to the floor.He 
then turned the gun on the woman and fired three more shots into her prostrate 
form.Satisfied with his work, the murderer left the house,locking the door 
behind him,and came uptown to his room in the Bartelle building,where he 
reloaded his weapon,placed the muzzle to his ear and blew out hia brains,
No person heard the shots, but the police were attracted to the spot  by 
groans coming from Sund,who was still alive.He was taken to the hospital but 
died a few hours later.When questioned he told the above facts to the police. 
Sund was dressed but the woman was partially disrobed.
The cause of the tragedy was jealousy.Miles had furnished the apartments for 
the Harrington woman,who had just disowned him,causing him to get on a drunk 
which ended three lives. James Miles,the murderer was well known in this 
city,where he had resided for years. He was a quiet man.
Helen Harrington is the wife of James Harrington who was sent to Walla Walla 
last year for attempted murder.
John Sund was a well known logger who had resided here for many years.He is 55 
years old,unmarried.
