He was run over and instantly killed. he has a mother living in Michigan, but no near relative in this section,so far as known. William Phillips rested the butt of his gun on a wagon tongue, but let it slip. The hammer struck, the gun fired and all of his right hand except the first finger and thumb was blown off.
