Wheel Kills Brakeman
Two Accidents,One Fatal,the Other Serious,Occur In One Day
Montesano,Wash.,Oct.3-(Special)- Two accidents occurredin Montesano today,one 
resulting fatally and the other in the practical loss of the victim's right 
hand.William Elder,a brkeman on the logging train of Chehalis County Logging  
& Timber Company, while engaged in assisting in switching tried,while the 
train wasin motion, to draw the pin which fastened the cable, and slipped and 
fell under the wheels. He was run over and instantly killed. he has a mother 
living in Michigan, but no near relative in this section,so far as known.
William Phillips rested the butt of his gun on a wagon tongue, but let it 
slip. The hammer struck, the gun fired and all of his right hand except the 
first finger and thumb was blown off.
