Frizzell, of Ocean Shores, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, in a Tacoma hospital. He was 74. He was born Feb. 22, 1922, at Tacoma to Roy and Gladys (Ford) Frizzell. As an infant, he lived at Malone, then moved with his family to the Schafer Logging Camp in the East County area. He had also lived in Elma and Montesano as a child, graduating from Montesano High School in 1941. As a teen-ager, Frizzell worked on the fire watch for Schafer's. He had also been employed by the Saginaw Timber Co. at Brooklyn. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the Navy. After his discharge from the service, he again worked for Schafer's, then for ITT Rayonier in Hoquiam from 1950 to 1961. In 1962, he went to work for the Grays Harbor Log and Scaling Bureau of Hoquiam, where he remained until he retired as a master log scaler in 1985. He had also worked for 12 years as a bartender for Duffy's on Simpson Street in Aberdeen. He married Doris Mannion in 1946. They divorced in 1972. On June 14, 1982, he married Dorothy Harper Coates at Reno, Nev. She survives at the family home. The couple opened Lil' Iodines Gift Shop at Ocean Shores in 1983, and Frizzell worked there during his retirement years. He enjoyed meeting people and made many friends of the shop's customers. He was a lifetime member of the Aberdeen Elks No. 593 and had also belonged to the Hoquiam Eagles No. 3916; the Veternas of Foreign Wars Post No. 224 in Aberdeen; the National Rifle Association; Grays Harbor Rifle and Pistol Club and the American Association of Retired Persons. Frizzell's favorite sport was hunting, and he went to Montana annually for the past 35 years to hunt with friends. He also liked to read, garden, dig clams, and he loved his home. He was especially fond of his two dogs, Precious and Benji. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Janet Steurman (sic) of Kirkland, Colleen Davison of Aberdeen, Diane Smith of Central Park and Joanne Crittenden of Ocean Shores; two stepsons, Gerald Coates of the family home and John K. Coates of Gig Harbor; six grandchildren and a special firend, Roger Potts of Aberdeen, who helped with his care. There will be no service.
