Clarke Publishing Company JOHN C. BANKS. For over twenty years John C. Banks has been selling insurance in Portland and has gained a well merited reputation as an energetic, wide-awake and progressive business man. He is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a son of John M. and Caroline V. Banks, both of whom are deceased. He received a good public school education and in the fall of 1905 went to Seattle, Washington, where he was engaged in the lumber business and also in Skagit county, that state. Later he sold his interests there and, with his mother, started east. On the way they stopped in Portland and were so impressed with the city that they remained here a week, after which they continued their journey. Mr. Banks remained in the east about six months and, in April, 1907, returned to Portland, where he has been engaged in the insurance business to the present time. He is a member of the well known Rogers-Hart-Banks Company, which handles all kinds of insurance, except life insurance, and sells surety bonds. During these years he has enjoyed a very satisfactory measure of success, which he has earned through his active and well directed efforts. Mr. Banks was united in marriage to Miss Gladys MacSwiney, who was born in Cheltenham, England. Mr. Banks is independent in his political views and is a member of the Arlington Club and the Waverley Club. He enjoys a wide acquaintance throughout this section of the valley and commands the sincere respect and good will of all who come in contact with him.
