J. Clarke Publishing Company L. W. HANSEN is accorded a place among the foremost contractors of Portland, where for a number of years he has been identified with large building operations, and has gained an enviable reputation for thoroughness and reliability in everything he undertakes. Mr. Hansen was born in Wisconsin on the 29th of October, 1885, and is a son of Nels and Carrie Hansen, the former now deceased and the latter still a resident of that state. Mr. Hansen received the advantage of a good public school education, graduating from high school, and his earliest employment was in connection with contracting and construction work, in the details of which he became intimately familiar. He remained in his native state until 1909, when he went to Seattle, Washington where he was general superintendent for the Rounds Clist Company, contractors, until 1921, when he came to Portland continuing with The Rounds Clist Company until 1923, when he organized the Hansen-Hammond Company and engaged in the contracting business on his own account. In October, 1927, this partnership was dissolved, after which he organized the Hansen Construction Company, of which he is the sole owner, and continued the contracting business. Since 1923 Mr. Hansen has constructed many of the large and prominent buildings in Portland, including the Pacific building the Bedel building, the Broadway theater, the Young Men's Christian Association building, the Pittock block, the Portland National Bank building, the Multnomah City stadium, six or more large school buildings, a part of the Crown Willamette Paper Company buildings at Camas, and the First National Bank building at Salem, and is now erecting the Meyer building and the Portland Fruit and Flower Mission day nursery, at Twelfth and Market streets. He is honest and conscientious in carrying out his contracts, taking a justifiable pride in the high quality of his work, and in the business circles of Portland commands uniform respect for the sound principles on which his business is based. In 1908 Mr. Hansen was united in marriage to Miss Blanche DeVoe, who was born and reared in Wisconsin, and they are the parents of three children, Craig, June and Jessie. Mr. Hansen's political affiliation is with the republican party and, though a busy man in his individual affairs, he lets nothing interfere with the meeting of his obligations of citizenship, maintaining a deep interest in matters pertaining to the welfare and prosperity of his city. He is a member of Willamette Lodge No. 2, A. F. & A. M.; the Multnomah Athletic Club, the Alderwood Country Club, the City Club, the Progressive Business Men's Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
