Seattle,Wash.,April22- The corporation counsel today gave his opinion that the 
action of the board of aldeman last night in removing Dr.J.P.Sweeney from the 
office of acting mayor was valid, and that leander Miller, who has ben elected 
to succeed him as president of the board of alderman, was theefore ex-officio 
acting mayor. Dr.Sweeney, after threatening to carry his case to court, 
reconsidered, and sent his resignation to th ecity clerk. in an interviw he 
said he did not want to longer be identified with "tools of gamblers and 
sellers of franchises," but when asked to specify what he meant refused to say 
any more.
