Richard was born June 24, 1933 in Marietta, Minnesota to Harvey and Bernice 
Bersie.

He graduated from Pacific Lutheran, earned a Master of Divinity from Luther 
Seminary in St. Paul,and was ordained in 1959.

He married Barbara Gulliksen on February 13, 1960.

He served parishes in Hawthorne, CA, and in Seattle at Phinney Ridge 
Lutheran and Riverton Heights Lutheran.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2011.

He is survived by daughters Kristi (Larry) Pyne and Kari (Dan) Henderson.
