Joseph was born June 26, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Susan Cereghino.

After graduation from High School he enlisted in the US Army and served as a 
paratrooper in Japan with the 11th Airborne.

In 1949 he married Shirley and they had three sons: Stephen, Philip and David.

From 1959 he worked at the Seattle Times until retiring in 1992.
