Renton lost one of its eariest settlers October 13 when Joseph Edwards died at a Seattle hospital at the age of 91 years. At the time of his death he had been living at the home of a daughter in Talbot. "Joe" Edwards was one of Renton's pioneer police officiers. He was chief of police here when the city was a village and was known as an energetic law officer. He was born in England and moved to the United States 73 years ago. A few years after arrival in the U.S. he moved here where he lived fr 65 years. Edwards was a member of St. Andrews Lodge 35, F. and A.M., the Oddfellows and Knights of Pythias, at Renton. Surviving him are two sons, William of Seattle and Samuel of San Diego, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Alice Coen, Seattle, Mrs. Margaret Skaggs and Mrs. Meda Teasdale, both of Renton. Mrs. Ethel Hinckley of San Diego and Mrs. Annie Williams of San Francisco; two brothers, Thomas of Oceanside, Calif., and William of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude George of San Diego and Mrs. Matilda Brandt of Fresno, Calif.; 25 grandchildren and 26 great- grandchildren. Masonic services were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Stokes mortuary chapel, Renton, and burial was at the Greenwood cemetery.
