While working as an elevator operator with Meier and Frank dept. store, she met John Donald Firestone, fell in love and married. They just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary last March. Phyllis and Don lived in Portland Oregon until 1957 when they moved to Spokane Washington where they lived for the next 50 years. Last winter Phyllis and Don moved to Seattle to be closer to family. Phyllis made many friends over the years, many she met while she was a MaryKay beauty consultant. Last fall she retired from MaryKay with 25 years. Phyllis always enjoyed helping people. While in Spokane, Phyllis helped deliver meals on wheels with her good friend Ronni, for 14 years. Phyllis was an avid artist. Throughout the years she’s created many beautiful things including, pine needle baskets, Ukrainian eggs, quilting, beading, and oil paintings. Yet when asked what her greatest achievement was, she would without hesitation say raising four good children, Dennis Firestone, Pennie McCallum, Jeff Firestone, and Jill Firestone. Diagnosed with ALS on October the 30th 2006, she died 2 years later form ALS. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents John Garner Craig and Pearl Blanche Weatherill, and her brother Jack Craig. She is survived by her husband J. Don Firestone, her four children and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
