M.E. JOHNSON MEETS SUDDEN END WHEN ROCK FALLS AND BREAKS HIS NECK

The first mine fatality in Higginsville for a number of years happened
Friday night at the No.7 mine when M.E. Johnson, 53 years old, was 
killed by rock falling on his neck and breaking it. He had been setting
jacks for the machines when the accident occurred.

The accident happened at 11 p.m. and when it was found that he was 
beyond medical aid the coroner was notified.

The deceased had worked at the Farmers Fuel mines off and on for the 
past fifteen years. He is survived by his wife, two dependent children, a 
son, Lester and two daughters, Irene of the home and Mrs. Norwood 
Richardson.

The Johnson home was recently destroyed by fire on the south hill and 
had just been rebuilt, and now a greater calamity overtakes the family. 
The wife and children have the sympathy of the community in this 
bereavement.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Baptist Church.
