Martin was born in Natick, MA to Dr. John D. and Edyth Nelson.   No birth date was 
given but he was 78 at the time of his death.

He graduated from the University of Maine with a BS in Zoology, eventually earning 
a Master's in Fisheries Science and the University of Washington.    He worked for 
NOAA.

He married Catherine in 1961, and they were married 53 years.

He is survived by his children Beth Hambrick, Patricia Nelson and Thomas Nelson.
