Paul was born on March 26, 1925, growing up in Brooklyn, NY.

He married Naomi in 1948.

During WWII he served in the US Army and was stationed in the Philippines.  He
used his language skills to tell Japanese guerilla bands that the war was over.

After earning a PhD he taught at the UW for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

He is survived by his son David, daughter-in-law Susan and daughter Janet.
