After college he was commissioned into the Navy and served as a submarine officer during World War II, participating in USS Parche's 1944 night attach on a Japanese convoy in the Luzon Strait. He married Barbara Greenwood and had daughter Pamela. He is survived by his second wife Vicki Macaulay (married 38 years) and daughters Pamela Rauscher Krug (Paul Edward) and Louise Rauscher Mooney. He was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Rauscher Wise and son-in-law James Pierce Mooney III.
