Stanley was born in North Dakota in 1918.

He joined the Navy at 17, and served on the USS Arizona from 1936-1939.   
During WWII he served on a merchant-marine vessel in the South Pacific.

He is survived by his wife Donna, son Marty Rood (Jan), daughter Robin Rood, 
and stepson Scott Terrell.
