He married Evelyn and they had a son, Bill. He volunteered for the Eagle Squadron II, a crew of American pilots preparing to help England against Germany during World War II. After Pearl Harbor, however, he joined the Civilian Pilot Training Program in Fargo. He was stationed in Fairbanks, AK. He participated in the Berlin and Korean airlifts, and participated in Operation Magic Carpet, transporting nearly 1,000 Yemenite Jews to safety in Israel, for which he was honored in 2013. He married Jean Higman. He also married Adelina. He was preceded in death by his wife Adelina and sons Bill and Bruce. He is survived by Bill's wife Margie Silver; sister Betty Eisenstadt; stepdaughter Paulette Mateer; former wife Jean Silver and son Mark Silver; daughter Susan Silver.
