Herbert was 94 at the time of his death.    He was born in Los Angeles, CA.

He served in the 3rd Army Mechanized Cavalry Recon Squadron in the European
theater during World War II, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Harriet Vail; wife Betty;
brother Evan; sister Lourene.

He is survived by daughters Cindy Susan Davis and Cecily Vail Erickson; brother
James.
