Jack was 88 at the time of his death.  He was born to Sephardic immigrants from
Turkey.

He served in the US Navy on the USS Winged Arrow.   After completing ROTC at the
University of Washington he served in the Army Reserve and was the Commanding
Officer of the Tenth Corps based at Fort Lawton, retiring as a Major.

He married Sally Funes in 1952.

He is survived by his children Ms. Janice Halfon, Rabbi Frank Varon (Rena) and
Morris Varon (Aura); and by his sister Tillie Scapa.
