She stated that the land had originally been Chief Chico's. It was sold to the Erlands. Their daughter in turn sold it to her parents in 1933. There was a cemetery at the lot in back of theirs. It was a RC cemetery. At one point, a group of priests came by and informed the family that all the bodies had been removed. Later, vandals came by and attempted to remove a gravestone. The family(s) scared them off. This woman, then a young girl, joined with some friends and retrieved the stone at low tide where the thieves had dumped it. She remembers that the name on the stone was Jessie Howard. The site was around 5200 on Erlands Point Rd, which would fit the Phinney Bay citation. She mentioned the standard small picket white fence(s) around children's graves etc. In Christ, I humbly remain your servant, Steve Morrison of Stepping Stones smorrison71@home.com Burial List submitted by Lori Huser: PHINNEY BAY (JACKSON) INDIAN CEMETERY Kitsap County platt location: T24N R1E Section 10 Driving directions: Turn off Kitsap Way (in Bremerton, WA) onto Marine Drive, at the Y go right onto Rocky Point.
