The Washinton State Veterans Home cemetery records was compiled by Teresa Trimm of the Veterans home. The index list is assembled from office documents and has not been verifieded at the cemetery. A very large vote of thanks is due Teresa for the many hours spent in assembling this data. The stones themselves contain very limited information. The name of the veteran and his military unit with occasionally his rank and war he fought in. Often the veterans spouse's tombstone includes the birth and death date. The index files provide an alphabetical listing of the interred individuals with cemetery section, lot number and death date when available. As the information is verified at the cemetery, section files will be added showing tombstone data. Often husband and wife will be buried side by side, consequently this file will be indexed in the sequence found at the cemetery. Normally the maiden name of the spouse is not available in this record. Also be aware the term widow does not mean the husband died before the wife. The cemetery may be reached from Port Orchard by traveling East on Mile Hill Dr., Left on Olney Rd. for about a 1/4 mile where you will find the cemetery on both sides of the road. I am informed the cemetery was established in 1912 and is still active. The markers are all in good condition and include both upright and flat markers. World War I markers have additional information which includes birth, death and state of origin. This information will be included in the Section Files as we come to them. If one is fortunate enough to find a relative in this cemetery, more information is available. By calling (360) 586-1492 or (360) 586-1602 you will reach the state archives department who receives a personal folder on each of the deceased at the time of death. These folders vary from 4 to 10 pages (sometimes up to 50) which may include family, medical and military information as well as pictures, letters and etc. The people at the archive dept will look up your information for $12.50 per look-up and copy the file for $.25 per page plus shipping. Or the researcher can look them up themselves, saving the $12.50 and shipping. 11 1 Leonard Eli CORPL CO. A. 2 MINN. CAV. 11 2 Turk Timothy M CO. F. 9 IND. INF. 11 3 Nelson Sarah H WID. OF EDW. E.
