All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ Contributed by: Shelli Steedman 4/20/2007 Funeral services for Julia Ann Harrel, 90, who died yesterday [June 15, 1966] in the Kittitas Valley Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Evenson's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Nance officiating. Burial will be the IOOF Cemetery. Mrs. Harrel, a pioneer resident, was born Feb. 10, 1876, at Rogersville, Tenn., and was married to Edward Harrel Feb. 11, 1896 in Tennessee. They came to the Kittitas Valley from Rogersville in May 1902, and worked for William Packwood for three years. They then operated a farm for Clarence Palmer before buying a ranch in the Fairview District where they lived for four years. Ultimately, they moved to the west side and purchased the Calkins Ranch which the family still operates. Later she moved into Ellensburg from the ranch and made her home at 802 E. First. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Rebekah Lodge, and Eastern Star. Mrs. Harrel is survived by four sons, Arley V., William C., and Ervan H., all of Ellensburg, and Claude L. of Seattle; a daughter, Mrs. B. W. Cooke of Ellensburg, 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Mrs. Harrel was the only surviving member of a family of 14 children.
