McEwen, 81, died Friday morning [October 7, 1977] at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. Born Oct. 30, 1895, in Surgoinsville, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late John and Phoebe Derrick Looney. She came here from Tennessee in 1910 and she and Ernie D. McEwen were married on Aug. 21, 1916. They farmed in the Toppenish area for a time, returning to the Kittitas Valley, where they farmed in the Wilson Creek area until his death in 1951. She moved to Ellensburg and made her home at the Robbins Apts. At 309 E. 3rd until moving to a local nursing home two years ago. Her affiliations included membership in the First Christian Church, Eagles Auxiliary and Rebekah Altrua Lodge No. 209. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Bertha Godbey of Ellensburg; a brother, Max Looney of Wenatchee; and several nieces and nephews, including the former Dorothy Looney, whom she raised as a daughter, now Mrs. Dorothy Arnold of Lee's Summitt, Mo. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. and burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery.
