The Centralia Daily Chronicle, June 23, 1932
FORMER RESIDENT PASSES IN TACOMA.  John Friend, 86, former resident of 
Centralia, died last night in Tacoma.  The body was brought here and is at the 
Newell mortuary pending funeral arrangements.  Mr. Friend had been residing in 
Tacoma the past nine years.  He is survived by four children: Charles Friend, 
Tono, Mrs. John Robertson and Mr. Walter Friend, both of Centralia, and George 
H. Friend, Renton.

VITALS: b.July 03, 1845 Bitton, Gloucester, England; m.November 02, 1867 in 
St. James, Bristol, Gloucester, England to Esther JENKINS; immigrated to U.S. 
1880; d.June 22, 1932 Pierce County Hospital, Tacoma, Pierce, WA; bu.June 25, 
1932 Mountain View Cemetery, Centralia, WA.  Living with granddaugther, Alice 
Phoebe EDWARDS COEN, in Tacoma, WA at time of death.  
Parents:  Coster FRIEND and Eliza HOPES (Bitton, Gloucester, England).  
Children: Charles William FRIEND; Phoebe FRIEND EDWARDS; Sarann M. FRIEND 
ROBERTSON; George Henry FRIEND; and Walter Wesley FRIEND.
