FRIEND DIES AT 89. A resident of the Centralia area for 58 years, Mrs. Augusta Friend died early Thursday in a Centralia nursing home. She was 89 years of age. Mrs. Friend, born Nov. 18, 1875, in Dunlarp, Sweden, was a member of First Christian church of Centralia. She and her husband, Charles W. Friend, were one of the first families at Tono, where he was a mine foreman for the Washington Union Coal Co., a part of the Union Pacific Railroad at that time. Mr. Friend succumbed in 1942. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Martina, Bucoda; three sons, Wilbert Friend, Olympia, and C.J. and C. Byrd Friend, Centralia; six granchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Newell-Hoerling's, Centralia, with the Rev. Harvey C. Harting to officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain View. PARENTS: Sven TUFVESSON AND Petronella BENGTSDOTTER. CHILDREN: Roy William FRIEND; Wilbert Coster FRIEND; Phoebe Irene FRIEND MARTINA; Carroll John FRIEND; and Charles Byrd FRIEND. RESIDENCES: Gilman, King, WA during 1900 census (Augusta's sister's family - Matilda "Thilda" and Louis BECKER - owned the nearby Hotel Stockholm in Issaquah); residing in Tono, Thurston, WA during 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses; subsequently, moved to Centralia, WA where Augusta resided until her death in 1965.
