Friend's handwriting: Carroll FRIEND (brother of Wilbert) and Ben PETERSON. These are Centralia, WA boys, circa 1932. Additional Comments: Carroll (1912-1983) was raised in Tono, Thurston, WA where his father, Charles William FRIEND (1871-1842), was mine foreman. After 1930, they moved to Centralia, Lewis, WA. Carroll was an infielder and pitcher who was drafted to play baseball with the Aberdeen Black Cats. According to the Centralia Daily Chronicle (6-7-1934), Carroll "Swede" Friend was let go with some other players because they cost the club too much. He pitched for the Olympia team in 1935.
