Burial list of Loomis Cemetery transcribed and submitted by T Sheldon June 2002. Both above notices must remain when copied or downloaded. ------------------------------------------------------------------- This cemetery sits upon a 50 foot square parcel of land that had originally belonged to the Briscoe DLC. John Briscoe sold lots of his land to others and made such a sale to John A. Clark, who sold the land to IH Whealdon, who sold it to LB Lyon in Sep of 1894. LB Lyon died and his widow, Mary A. sold the property to Marietta Shumway in 1901. Ms. Shumway had a problem with the taxes on the land, and in 1942 the land went to the county, however the cemetery plot was declared tax exempt in 1944. It is unknown why the cemetery was named 'Loomis', nor why it wasn't used by more than one burial. BARBER female child
