Mr. Springer came to Oregon in 1852 and resided in Portland several years when Portland was a small village. For years he carried the mail from Portland to Vancouver, residing in Vancouver about 14 years. Of late years he had resided at South Bend. He participated in a number of engagements during the early settlement of Oregon and Washington against the Indians. He was twice married. Seven daughters and a son survive him.
