Principal of Grade School - E. B. Riley of Bellingham Normal School, home in Tacoma. Commercial department - Miss Grace E. Murdoch of Buetel Business College, home in Tacoma. Language - Miss Ruth E. Emel and small son Russell, returned to National , Monday, after a week's visit with relatives in Seattle. Dance given Saturday evening by Mr. Butler. SILVER LAKE NEWS Mrs. Nila Asplund entertained the ladies of the Silver Lake Sewing Club, Thursday. Mr. W. A. McCutcheon was in Tacoma, on business, Sunday. Mrs. R. Fitzer has been spending several days in Eatonville with her mother, who is ill. Miss Emily Fredericksen of Clear lake, is spending the week with her sister, Mrs. W. A. McCutcheon. LOCAL JOTTINGS FROM AROUND THE TOWN Mrs. Rose O'Neil and nephew jack Thompson, who have visited at the home of J. B. Kernahan for the past month, expect to leave Saturday, for their home in Tacoma. Mrs. Grace McKee, the agent for the Delineator (of San Francisco) was in national, Tuesday, getting subscribers for that monthly. Sid Potter, the efficient electrical engineer of national, left Tuesday, for a fortnight's vacation. Miss Mabel Williams, who is visiting at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Geo. Manning, went to Seattle Tuesday, for a few days visit. M. Holden, the father of Mrs. Lawrence, returned to his home in Summit, Wednesday. May Austin accompanied him. Mrs. T. H. Long, Mrs. S. A. Manning, Mrs. Arthur Borden and Mrs. J. L. Brady, motored to Mineral, Wednesday afternoon and visited Mrs. Reed Hayes at the home of J. H. Miller. W. G. Ballantyne was a passenger for Tacoma, Wednesday. James Thomas is the proud possessor of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Sunday he drove to Paradise accompanied by M. Allison. Bert Harl has returned to national. Mrs. Colvin spent several days in Tacoma, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Courtright and son Donald, of Rainier, and Roy Waddell of Offut's; Lake, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Art Waddell. Mrs. Ida Williams has purchased the lot between the Pioneer Garage and the Bakery and expects to put up a tile building. Mrs. Vickers motored to Tacoma, Friday, where she did shopping. OHOP VALLEY ITEMS Carroll Foster of Seattle is spending a few days at Kings' place. Miss Ana Larson is visiting in Tacoma. Miss Phoebe Larson of Tacoma, has been the guest of Martha Kjelstad for a week. Mrs. E. Jacobson and daughter Ethel are visiting in Tacoma. Mrs. P. Peterson entertained at a birthday party, Tuesday, Mrs. Olden, Mrs. Malm, Mary Jacobson, Ida Anderson and Gertrude Woodney. Marian Tripler entertained at an afternoon party for a number of friends, Thursday. Miss Tripler leaves Monday, for Ellensburg, where she will attend the Normal School. Mrs. Chas. McTee and Mrs. Nurse motored to Rap John Lake, Wednesday. MINERAL NEWS NOTES Mr. D. L. Richardson, secretary of Mt. Tacoma Lodge, 403, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Mrs. D. L. Richardson, Mrs. Daisy Garland and son, of Tacoma, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Trim, picnicked on Mineral Creek, Sunday. Mrs. A. W. Adamy and her sister Lois and Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Grub of Tumwater, visited at the home of J. Q. Adamy, Sunday. Miss Lois will remain with her sister, Mrs. Adamy, and attend school. Mrs. L. Mr. Carl Richards is on the sick list. TIDEWATER NEWS Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Anderson celebrated the anniversary of their 25th wedding Saturday evening. A large number of friends from Tacoma, Seattle, and this locality were present. Miss Curtis left Monday for San Francisco where she will attend the Mission School of Training. Miss Louree Burgess has as her guest, Miss jenny Gorman of Gardenville. Mr. Harry Neilson has returned from Pacific Beach. Mrs. Barbezat of Benston called on Mrs. J. Jackson. Mr. Sam Jensen and Mrs. Ray Miller spent Tuesday in Tacoma. Mrs. Wm. Raysbrook entertained at dinner, Sunday, for Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Evans, Mrs. Gunlock, and Miss Mina Gunlock, of Tacoma. Miss Hilda Anderson spent the week end with her parents here. Mr. D. J. Mink was a Mud Lake Sunday. Mrs. A. N. Christensen called on Mrs. J. B. Wallace. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas motored to Tacoma, Monday. ELBE NEWS NOTES Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Patterson of Tacoma are visiting friends and relatives in Elbe this week. The Elbe Shingle Mill has shut down indefinitely. Mrs. Ada Exstrom is seriously ill at her home. Dr. Bridge is attending her. Mrs. D. E. Whitney and Josie Montague visited friends in national, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson and Mr. G.G. Hardy motored to Morton, Monday. Mr. D. E. Whitney was in Eatonville, calling, Sunday. A picnic will be held in Elbe Park, Wednesday, Aug. 30, given by the Sunday school children and by Ray Engel, the occasion being Ray's 7th birthday. Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Engel and Mrs. Campbell called on Mrs. Exstrom, Monday evening. Miss Jennie Shanks is visiting friends near Tacoma, for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Sachs and son Lloyd, also Miss Anna Mensik motored to Randle, Sunday. Mr. Wachtman and children, of Tacoma, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henery Lutkins, the past week. Mr. Levi Engel is kept busy at his garage, lately. Lloyd Sachs is helping him. Mrs. Robert Williamson and daughters Miss Loretta and Viola, left for their home in Seattle, Sunday. LADIES BOOST FAIR BABIES Mrs. Fred Matheny, Mrs. Roy Beckwith, Mrs. C. A. Nettleton, Mrs. J. E. Fales are acting as a committee for the promotion of the "Better Babies Contest" which will be one of the leading features of the T & E Fair, which will be held the latter part of this month. Etc. Mr. and Mrs. Dejaski spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tomchick. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Barbezat spent Tuesday evening at the home of F. E. Lipke. SWAN LAKE NEWS Henry, Peter, and Oscar Asmussen and John Asplund motored to Tacoma, Monday. Mrs. Barney Reeves went to Tacoma, last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Cyprus Duncan are spending the week at Charles Kreger's. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Peterson drove to the latter's ranch, Sunday. R. Flander has been confined to his bed for the past two weeks, having had the misfortune of falling, Tuesday. Ace Mattix, Blanche Kreger, Hazel Reiter, and Ruth Mattix, motored to Eatonville, Sunday evening, and took in a couple of Movies. 'Twas the Ford that so kindly took them along. Bessie Flander and Wesley Scoggins drove to the Leber ranch, Sunday. J. H. Reed was a caller in this neighborhood, last week. Blanch Kreger and Ruth Mattix spent Sunday with Emma Asmussen. Those who visited the Flanders' Sunday were Peter and Charles Asmussen, John Asplund, Mrs. R. Wolfe, Mrs. Fred Kropf, Edwin and Ickie Kropf, Wesley Scoggins, Annex Peterson, William Leber and Jese Reed. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Harbin, Myrtle Givens, Mrs. W. Snyder and children, and Mrs. George Dean motored to Ohob Bobs and Eatonville, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Radomsky have moved to Royce's mill. H. E. Hotes and Miss Florence Toney were delightfully entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Sachs in Elbe, Wednesday evening. After a musical program a dainty lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. Sachs. Mrs. I. Q. Freese returned home Wednesday, from Camp 17, Ashford, where she has been visiting for the past few days. Mrs. J. M. Toney delightfully entertained at luncheon, Wednesday, the following ladies; Mesdames, W. Kellogg, F. C. Duke, E. Boettcher, C. Boettcher, and Misses Mollie Miler and Florence Toney. Mrs. Gus Lunn and children have been visiting relatives in Seattle for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. F. J Hotes, Mesdames Richey, Freese, R. Kruse, Messrs. Herman Kruse, Walter Guske, Cy Perkins and Elizabeth Hotes, motored to Eatonville, Thursday night and attended the movies. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Tatro entertained guests from Seattle, the past week. Miss Mollie Miller was in Tacoma, Friday. Messrs. Woodard Parsons and I. Q. Freese were at home over Sunday from Camp 17, Ashford. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Duke and children enjoyed a picnic at Silver Lake, Sunday. Miss Ida Hedborg returned home from Tacoma, Friday, where she has been visiting, friends for the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. [Cehey ?spelling?] of Ashford, who have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. F. J. Hotes, for several weeks, left for their former home in Iowa, Tuesday morning, accompanied by their grand-daughter, little Margaret Hotes, who will spend several months with them, East of the mountains, where they will visit relatives for a few days. Miss Grace Parks was in Eatonville, Monday. Mesdames Shepard and Freese were callers at A. Suderbergs', Tuesday afternoon. CLEAR LAKE NEWS The Misses Carrie and Louise Nagley of Eatonville, were the guests of G. V. Golden's family several days this week. Mrs. Fred Guske spent Thursday afternoon at Cedar Grove. Mr. Newby of Marble Mount is the guest of the Conrad family. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fredericksen and Miss Dorothy Martin, of Tacoma, were weekend guests at Cedar Grove. Miss Cora Golden has returned home in order to attend High school at Eatonville. Misses Mary and Minnie Conrad made a short trip to Tacoma, Saturday. Mrs. Inez Fredericksen and son Adrian of Orcas Island, spent several days at Cedar Grove, this week. Miss Emily Fredericksen is spending the week as the guest of Mrs. McCutcheon of Silver Meadow Farm. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Martin called at Cedar Grove, Sunday evening. School will open at Clear Lake, Tuesday morning, with Miss Fredericksen in charge.
