Starr pstarr20@mchsi.com February 17, 2006, 3:52 pm Arlington Times, June 22, 1917 Arlington Times, 1917 obituary for W. H. Harris reads as follows: "W. H. Harris, an aged and respected citizen of this community passed away after a long illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Handley, at 1 a.m. Saturday, June 17. Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, the sermon being given by Rev. C. J. Swain and appropriate music being rendered by a quartet composed of Mrs. Riley, Miss Wilson, Mr. Ames and Ray Swain with Mrs. Palmer as accompanist. The casket was buried in floral offerings as the remains were removed to Harwood Cemetery, (Arlington Municipal Cemetery) their last resting place. William Henry Harris was born August 23, 1834 in New York state, near the Hudson river. He went from there to Branch County, Mich., and 31 years ago came to South Park, Seattle, where he resided until recently. Two years ago he fell from a load of wood and broke his leg, since when he has resided here with his daughter, Mrs. Handley, recovering sufficiently to be about but never entirely recovering from the shock. His last days were spent most of the time in sleep-until he slept to wake no more in this life. Mr. Harris was an upright and industrious man, esteemed by all who knew him. He was a member of the United Brethren church. His wife died twenty years ago, but he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ida Handley, one granddaughter and four great-grandchildren. Friends from Seattle present at the funeral were: Albert Paul, Mrs. George Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. David Paul, Mrs. McKinley, Mrs. Anna Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Elzie."
