The cause of death is uncertain. He was found by one of his sons unconscious on the floor Tuesday morning and was taken to the hospital. It is not known how long he lay on the floor, but his sons are sure that he was there all night and probably the day before, for no one was him on the previous day and the boys happened to be away from home. Mr. Morse was born in Wallingford, Conn. He served in the regular army for three years after the regular army for three years after the Civil War. He was on the field in Richmond to see Lee surrender, but he was never in a battle. He was reputed to be one of the smartest men in this part of the state, having graduated from the university at Ann Arbor, Mich., with very high honors and he had received degrees from other institutions. He drifted west and settled in Snohomish in 1872 and practiced law here until 1888, with the exception of three years between 1876 and 1879, when he edited the old Northern Star, which has since developed into the Snohomish County Tribune. He was beset by many difficulties in printing that paper, as the files of the paper show. He retired into private life in 1888 and became the head gardener for the late Isaac Cathcart on his big farm near the present town of Cathcart. Mr. Morse has always been a prolific writer and his writing have graced the pages of this and many other Northwestern publications from time to time during the past. Mr. Morse is survived by one daughter and five sons. They are: Mrs. C. H. Mathews, in Bellingham; Arthur, Harley, Roland, in this city; John, in Seattle, and Edwin, in Republic. No date has been set for the funeral.
